Granting mechanisation for eradicating ambrosia

  • On 5th June 2012, the Mayor of Sombor, Nemanja Delić, awarded a tractor with a mower and a motor lawnmower to the "Čistoća" public utility company. The ceremony was organised at the maintenance workshop of "Čistoća". The documents related to the grant of the machines for eradicating ambrosia were signed by the director of "Čistoća", Andrija Penzeš. The event was also attended by Slobodan Puzović, PhD, vice-secretary of the Provincial Secretary for Urban Planning, Construction and Environment Protection and prof. Saša Bošnjak, PhD, the "Support to Allergen-Free Environment" project manager, who actually organised the purchase of the mechanisation.

    The "Support to Allergen-Free Environment" project is a result of the partnership between the Provincial Secretariat for Urban planning, Construction and Environment Protection, the European Affairs Fund of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, the City of Sombor and the City of Baja. The total value of the project is EUR 390,350.00, 85 percent of which funded by the European Union, within the scope of Hungary-Serbia IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme.

    The aim of the "Support to Allergen-Free Environment" project is to lower the percentage of allergens in the air, especially ambrosia, so that the environment is as healthy as possible. The project also deals with the education of citizens, especially children and agricultural producers, related to the characteristics and influence of ambrosia on environment, as well as the steps that can be taken to control the quantity of ambrosia.

    The project finishes on 30th September 2013.
