Treatment of ambrosia in five local authorities in Vojvodina within the EU “Support to Allergen-Free Environment” project

  • The treatment of ambrosia is being carried out in 2012 and 2013 in five municipalities of Vojvodina, covering an area of 400 ha. It is a project activity - mechanical and chemical treatment of ambrosia within the "Support to Allergen-Free Environment" project. The project is funded by the European Union and co-financed by the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, under Hungary - Serbia IPA Cross-border Co-operation Programme. The project is being implemented by the Provincial Secretariat for Urban Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection, European Affairs Fund of Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, City of Sombor and Local Government of Baja.

    This project and action of mechanical and chemical treatment of ambrosia involves the municipalities of Kikinda, Zrenjanin, Sombor, Vrbas and Sremska Mitrovica. The plan is to cover an area of 125 ha in 2012, whereas 275 ha in 2013.

    The tenderer, selected in accordance with PRAG rules, is "Ciklonizacija" from Novi Sad and it is entrusted with the monitoring and treatment of ambrosia. By applying GPS, the exact coordinates of ambrosia sites and treated areas are determined. The teams of "Ciklonizacija" are on field and by the end of August, the treatment of ambrosia covered more that 80% of planned territories for 2012. Ambrosia is being treated mechanically (by mowing by special tractors and trimmers) and chemically (by using ecologically and eco-toxically safest products. The control and monitoring of treatment of ambrosia is being carried out by the Faculty of Agriculture in Novi Sad, Department for Phytomedicine and Environmental Protection.
