City of Sombor

The city of Sombor is situated in the far north west of the Republic of Serbia. International border crossings Bezdan and Bogojevo connect it to the Republic of Croatia and Bački Breg to the Republic of Hungary.

Distance to the border crossings:

    • 25 km to the Republic of Croatia
    • 28 km to the Republic of Hungary

Distance from major cities:

    • 175 km northwest of Belgrade
    • 223 km south of Budapest
    • 345 km southeast of Vienna

The city of Sombor is situated between the Pan-European Corridors 7 and 10. The Pan-European Transport Corridor 10, about 60 km away from Sombor, connects regional roads and railways with the international river terminal and Bezdan customs office on the Corridor 7 - the Danube River. 25 km of the Corridor 7 runs through the territory of the city of Sombor.

The City of Sombor is served by a road network comprising 89 km of major roads (M17.1 and M18) 67 km of regional (R101, R105 and R105.1) and 110 km of local roads. The railway system for passenger and cargo trains with single track railway lines bifurcates towards Subotica, Vrbas, Bogojevo and Apatin. There is a possibility to modernise the existing railway lines as well as to reactivate certain routes, i.e. expand the network in the direction of international borders with the Republic of Croatia and Hungary.

Considering that there is a military airport only 7 km away from the City centre, which has been projected to service commercial traffic within the Master Plan of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia, development of air transport can realistically be expected. The airport has the fewest fog days in the territory of the Republic of Serbia for which reason it might serve as an alternative to the Belgrade airport when the latter is closed due to fog.

Sombor has high potential to become a centre of passenger and cargo traffic. Production of fresh healthy food, which can be dispatched to any part of Europe within 24 hours, is a major asset to the area. The Middle Danube Basin has a vast tourism potential and its location between the Pan-European Corridors 7 and 10 facilitates transport accessibility for tourists.
